Firmware Editor Nokia GUI Firmware Editor v0.2 is Coming Soon

As stated on the PNHT (Professional Nokia Hacking Team) blog, a new version of their easy to use, graphical tool for editing Nokia Firmwares is soon to be released.

According to Adonix:

PNHT proudly present their latest build of Nokia GUI Firmware Editor. This new build numbered v0.2 will be released to public as soon as all features are implemented.
This new version includes too many changes. I will be updating them as soon as i remember them all LOL :D .
Features:
* A revamped new user interface
* New status bar with lots of useful informations
* Support for basic color skinning
* Support for multi-language user interface
* Firmware files downloader using product code (no need for navifirm)
* A complete firmware language manager that makes the task of language managing as easy as clicking a single button. This manager includes:
  • Language deleter basing on found languages inside the rom
  • Default language changer
  • Language Exporter/Importer: Users can now export all language files into a single file that can be shared with others to add support for more languages.
  • Custom filters for language files deletion (For advanced users)
* An application manager. This tool enables advanced modders to :
  • Create a record for each application and share it with others so they can easily delete it with a single button click
  • Create records for file deletion actions and recall them later if needed
  • Automatic application identifier: Enabled only in ROFS2/CORE editing (not yet complete)
  • Application Importer using SIS files (To be coded)
* Added support for resource files edditing
* A new internal engine for fast extraction of ROFS/ROFx images (no need for readimage)
* Support for UDA/FAT editing (under development)
* Support for old phones like N95 (under testing - may not be included in the first release)
* Support for CORE files editing. This is possible only with the ROFS1 part of Core
*....
This version is always under development and testing. A great part of the features is already implemented with exciting new ones coming each day.
Please write in the comments section any needs that you find important to the modding process. I'll see if any are to be included or if they are already included :)

  1. We may be able to use this editor to edit Nokia Firmwares. We will be able to add, delete and edit things within the firmware. For example, we can delete apps which we never use.

  2. For example, there is a restriction in the Symbian Security Platform that won't allow us to install unsigned applications. By editing a file in the firmware, we will be able to bypass this security.

There are many reasons why we do this, you'll understand it more when the tool comes out and people do custom firmwares with all kinds of tricked out modifications.

  3. but y not hack your phone only? without editnig files? how can u know that u r editing the right file?

  4. Hacking your phone only allows you to change some part of the operating system. Unless you edit the firmware, you won't have access to most of the files in your z:\ drive. This will limit your capability. For example, I'd like to change the driver for my inbuilt GPS device to make it work better and someone had conveniently made one, I simply have to replace the necessary files on my firmware and flash it.

Since Symbian^3 is open source and it is almost identical to Symbian^1 (Symbian S60v3, Symbian S60v5), we cam use the documentation to edit, remove and/or replace the files within the firmware.

  6. I see that so much people waiting for this editor gui ,,, but why are you only editing on 5 8 0 0 - 5 5 3 0 - 5 2 3 0 - 5 7 3 0 - n 9 7 what about the rest ...
as an example one of my pals got a n79 but when a had a look through dailymobile fourm i havn't seen a single cfw except the models which i mentioned before .... waiting for an reasonable explination

  7. Well, a simple explanation is no one with an N79 has made a custom firmware yet. Another reason is the editor only supports a few models.
